What is a main distribution board?
A Main Distribution Board (MDB) is your facility's primary power distribution panel and electrical distribution board, the central hub in your power distribution system. This critical component receives high-capacity power from transformers and distributes it to sub-distribution boards, motor control centers, and equipment throughout your operation.
How Main Distribution Board Works:
- Incoming power (typically 400V, three-phase) enters through the main circuit breaker, flows through precision busbars, and splits into multiple protected circuits. Each circuit has its own breaker, ensuring faults in one area don't shut down your entire facility.

- Main Distribution Board (MDB): Primary facility distribution, 630A-6300A capacity, receives power from transformers, and distributes to multiple SDBs. Highest protection coordination level in your power distribution system.
- Sub-Distribution Board (SDB): Secondary distribution serving specific zones/floors, 100A-800A, fed from MDB outgoing circuits.
- Final Distribution Board (FDB): End-point distribution for individual circuits and equipment, typically under 200A.
- Main Switchboard: Often interchangeable with MDB, though it may include additional switching/isolation capabilities beyond standard distribution functions.
