Main Distribution Board (MDB)

High-Performance Power Distribution for Industrial and Commercial Applications

Main Distribution Board

Saudi Arabia's leading MDB manufacturer since 1973. Custom-engineered electrical distribution panels built in-house to IEC 61439 and SASO standards, with 6-8 week delivery, local engineering support, and complete testing documentation.

What is a main distribution board?

A Main Distribution Board (MDB) is your facility's primary power distribution panel and electrical distribution board, the central hub in your power distribution system. This critical component receives high-capacity power from transformers and distributes it to sub-distribution boards, motor control centers, and equipment throughout your operation.

How Main Distribution Board Works:

  • Incoming power (typically 400V, three-phase) enters through the main circuit breaker, flows through precision busbars, and splits into multiple protected circuits. Each circuit has its own breaker, ensuring faults in one area don't shut down your entire facility.
  • Where MDB Fits:
  • Utility → Transformer → MDB (630A-6300A) → Sub-Distribution Boards → Final Distribution → Equipment
  • Unlike sub-distribution boards (serving specific zones) or final distribution boards (powering individual circuits), the main distribution panel manages your entire facility's electrical infrastructure with higher current capacity and complete protection coordination.

Types of Main Distribution Boards

Understanding the right MDB panel configuration is essential. Samman Group manufactures various main switchboards and low-voltage switchboards to match your requirements:

Form Classifications (IEC 61439):

  • Form 1 : No internal separation (economical, requires full shutdown for maintenance)
  • Form 2 : Busbar separated from devices (improved maintenance safety)
  • Form 3 : Individual device compartments (high availability, safer maintenance)
  • Form 4 : Complete component separation (maximum safety for mission-critical facilities)

Configuration Options:

  • Fixed vs. Withdrawable: Fixed for cost efficiency, withdrawable for easier maintenance
  • Floor-Standing vs. Wall-Mounted : Floor units for high currents (>630A), wall-mounted for compact installations
  • Single-Tier vs. Multi-Tier : Standard distribution or complex multi-level systems

MDB vs. Other Distribution Boards

  • Main Distribution Board (MDB): Primary facility distribution, 630A-6300A capacity, receives power from transformers, and distributes to multiple SDBs. Highest protection coordination level in your power distribution system.
  • Sub-Distribution Board (SDB): Secondary distribution serving specific zones/floors, 100A-800A, fed from MDB outgoing circuits.
  • Final Distribution Board (FDB): End-point distribution for individual circuits and equipment, typically under 200A.
  • Main Switchboard: Often interchangeable with MDB, though it may include additional switching/isolation capabilities beyond standard distribution functions.

Custom MDB Panel Diagram Engineering

Every MDB panel diagram (single-line diagram) shows your complete electrical architecture, from main incomer through busbars to all outgoing circuits. Our team creates custom main distribution panel diagrams illustrating protection ratings, cable specs, fault levels, and coordination strategy.

The diagram includes main incomer settings, busbar layout, outgoing feeder ratings, metering points, earth fault coordination, cable terminations, and expansion provisions.

Your MDB electrical panel diagram serves as the blueprint for manufacturing, installation, and maintenance, ensuring every component is precisely documented.
